Osmium tetrasulfide is an inorganic compound, a salt of osmium metal and hydrogen sulfide acid with the chemical formula OsS

Synthesis
Osmium tetrasulfide can be made by passing hydrogen sulfide through acidified solutions of osmium tetroxide:[2]

4 + 4H
2S → OsS
4 + 4H
2O
Physical properties
Osmium tetrasulfide forms dark brown crystals, does not dissolve in cold water. Soluble in dilute HNO
3.[3] Forms hydrates.[4]
Osmium tetrasulfide decomposes upon melting.[5]
