The Brookings Institution is a think tank in Washington, DC, one of the most frequently cited and perceived as centrist in its overall output. Its research is intended to:

  • Strengthen American democracy;
  • Foster the economic and social welfare, security and opportunity of all Americans and
  • Secure a more open, safe, prosperous and cooperative international system

It has been described as the most frequently cited think tank. [1], and closest to the ideological center of similar organizations. [2]

Its major programs are:

  • Economic Studies
  • Foreign Policy; it is more policy and less military/intelligence than some other grouss
  • Global Economy and Development
  • Governance Studies
  • Metropolitan Policy Program

President of the Institution is Strobe Talbott.
