Lullaby

From Citizendium - Reading time: 1 min

A lullaby, or cradle song, is a song sung to a baby or child to relax it and send it to sleep. Lullabies are often written in waltz time, probably because of its strong, rocking rhythm.

Lullabies can be very well known in their countries of origin; some like Brahms’s Lullaby and the lullaby from Hansel and Gretel (When at Night I go to Sleep) become internationally known.
