Tao Qian

Tao Qian (陶潛; 365-427; Wade-Giles: T'ao Ch'ien), also known as Tao Yuanming (陶淵明; Wade-Giles: T'ao Yüan-ming), was a Chinese poet who lived during the Eastern Jìn Dynasty. His family was poor but well-educated, enabling Tao to read novels and classic Confucian literature. Because of poverty, he was forced to work for the government, from which he later decided to withdraw in favour of spending the rest of his life on a farm. His poetry was written during this period and mostly touches on the subjects of nature and the everyday life of a farmer. He has been said to write in a clear state of mind, entering the realm of pure poetry.^[1]
