The Dutch Defense is a risky opening in chess by Black on its kingside in response to a White opening of 1.e4:
Other than to attain the element of surprise, particularly in blitz chess, the Dutch Defense is not recommended in high-level play.
The recommended response is the Staunton Gambit (2.e4), although that is less favored today as Black gains some advantage by simply taking the pawn (2...fxe4).
