Kara Henner Eastman (born November 6, 1971 as Kara Henner) is a Democrat politician and progressive activist who ran against Donald Bacon in the 2018 and 2020 House of Representatives elections in Nebraska's second district.

Eastman unapologetically supports the policies of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders. The policies Eastman support include a single-payer system such as Medicare for All and the Green New Deal; these policies were rejected by Joe Biden as being too extreme.

2020 election cycle[edit]

In the 2020 Democratic primary for the district, held on May 12, 2020, Eastman won the nomination with 62.2 percent of the vote.

Brad Ashford, a former representative of the second district, supported Don Bacon for Congress over Eastman.[1]

Eastman's staff was caught on video admitting to breaking Nebraska election law and encouraging others to do the same with a scheme to act as "agents" to obtain absentee ballots in the name of others. This is a violation of election law and has been noted by the Secretary of State of Nebraska, Robert Evnen.[2][3]

Nancy Pelosi's House Majority PAC spent $2.2 million to boost Eastman's congressional campaign.[4]

Eastman lost the election to Bacon, carrying 46.2 percent of the vote and doing worse than in 2018.
