Mark Helprin is an American author and conservative commentator.

Life and Works[edit]
He was born in New York City in 1947, educated at Harvard University, Oxford University, and Magdalen College, served in the British navy and Israeli military, and worked on Bob Dole's presidential campaign.[1] He wrote three collections of short stories, A Dove of the East and Other Stories, Ellis Island and Other Stories, and The Pacific and Other Stories; six novels, Refiner’s Fire, Winter’s Tale, A Soldier of the Great War, Memoir From Antproof Case, Freddy and Fredericka and In Sunlight and In Shadow; and three children's books, Swan Lake, A City in Winter, and The Veil of Snows.[2] He lives on a beautiful farm in Virginia with an impressive study and has never drank a cup of coffee.[3] He belongs to no particular literary school and follows his own path.[4]
