V8 Supercars

From Conservapedia - Reading time: 1 min

V8 Supercars is the premier touring car series in Australia and New Zealand. From 2013 the formula changed from being exclusively contested between Australian manufacturers Holden and Ford to a new "car of the future" specification, allowing both Nissan and Mercedes to join them, with Volvo set to join in 2014. Jamie Whincup is the current champion. Holden is the current Manufacturers Champion and Triple 8 engineering is the current holder of the teams championship.

The most prestigious race is the Bathurst 1000, which is held each October at the Mount Panorama Circuit.

The 2012 championship was won by Jamie Whincup, with 888 winning the teams championship and Holden winning the manufacturers championship. It is worth noting that Holden Racing Team which is technically Holden's official factory supported team, which is run by Walkinshaw Racing had its worst ever season in 2012. Many put this down to the mismanagement of the team by the young and inexperienced Ryan Walkinshaw who has controlled the team since his fathers untimely passing. The factory Ford team is Ford Performance Racing (FPR), which was part of FPV. FPR was sold by Prodrive in late December 2012.
