Asia ReneeBuck (born August 29, 1998) is an American rapper and songwriter, professionally known by the names Asianae and Hurricane Nae.[1] She is best known for her singles "Jump",[2] "Period Pooh", "How You Feel",[3] and "Like Dat".[4]
Buck is also the founder of her own women's empowerment movement, "The Mermaid Gang."[5] She has over 229k followers on Instagram and over 10k subscribers on YouTube.[6] Despite gaining notoriety for being the opening act on Latto’s 777 tour, alongside Saucy Santanna and Kali,[7] Asianae has been winning hearts with her music compositions.[8]
Asianae was born in Silver Springs, Maryland to Tamiko Colonel and Christopher Buck, as the middle child of six. At the age of two, she and her family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. After completing her schooling at Riverdale High School, Asianae attended Paine College in Augusta, Georgia to pursue a degree in medicine. Unfortunately, she was forced to take time off during her freshman year after being in a severe car accident. After getting better, Asianae re-enrolled in college at Georgia State and switched her major to study Business Administration.
However, Buck later withdrew from classes and decided to become an entrepreneur. She subsequently launched her own hair extension line and started selling dancewear. Asianae was introduced to the world of entertainment early in life since her father owned a production company. Since her childhood, Asianae has shared a deep reverence for music, listening to oldies and her mother’s CD collection. Her passion for music metamorphosed into early adulthood, and Buck began writing songs as therapy. During this time, Asianae would attend studio sessions with her brother, who was a local producer. She used this time to learn the craft and recorded her very first song.
In the year 2020, Asianae began her career as a musician on a full-time basis. Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Lil Wayne, and Rich Kids are just a few of the artists that have influenced her in the past.
In 2020, Buck was discovered by Dan MB Brown, CEO of Break 'Em Off Music Group.[9] Impressed with her style and work ethic, Brown and his team had a vision for Buck’s career as a rapper, which included the process of cultivating a signature sound and overall brand as an artist. Break’Em Off made it official and added "Asianae to their label roster in April of 2020.[10] After signing, Buck began building her confidence in the booth by working closely with labelmates Westside Shod and producer Krazy Figz to develop an introspective flare to her rap persona.[11]
Her first single went under the label "Dumb," followed by "Period Pooh" and "Jump,"[12] which have become two of her highest performing records to date. In November 2021, Buck released her debut project, "Chosen One,"[13] as a reflective piece on her journey to becoming an artist. Her 20-song project features T.I., Kash Doll, Flo Milli, Tasha Catour, DJ Trebble, Buddha Beats, and appearances from some of today’s most notable DJ’s such as Scream, Carisma, Infamous, and Swamp Izzo, to name a few.[14]
In February 2022, Buck was chosen to open up for fellow Southside rapper Latto on her 777 tour,[15] which included 24 stops across the United States. Through her artistry, Asianae has been able to give back to the community and uplift her supporters through several philanthropic and educational efforts. She refers to her growing fanbase as the "Mermaid Gang,"[16] which represents women living confidently and swimming freely in their own truth.[17]
