A public junior college known as New Mexico Junior College (NMJC) found in the rural area of Lea County, New Mexico, close to Hobbs.

Both the (a) Arts and Sciences and the (b) Business and Technology educational sectors at NMJC combine to provide a yearly selection of more than 640 courses for students to choose from. Additionally, NMJC provides certificate programmes in a variety of academic fields.

NMJC participates in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I for the sports of men's baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's golf, women's track and field, women's cross country, and men's and women's rodeo. In 2005, the school's baseball team became the first in its history to win the NJCAA World Series. The Thunderbird serves as their official emblem. KNMJ 100.9 FM is the station that will be broadcasting the men's and women's basketball games locally.
