Logan, Utah-based Utah State Institution (USU or Utah State) is a public land-grant research university with a focus on agricultural and natural resources. The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities has granted accreditation to the institution. The University of Utah is the state's biggest public residential institution, with roughly 20,000 students living on or near campus. The number of students enrolled in Fall 2020 was 27,691, consisting of 24,649 undergraduate students and 3,044 graduate students. Out-of-state students make up the largest proportion of the student population of any public institution in Utah, accounting for 23 percent of the overall enrollment at the university.
The University of Utah (USU) was established in 1888 as Utah's land-grant institution, with a concentration on science, engineering, agriculture, domestic arts, military science, and mechanic arts as its primary fields of study. The institution provides programmes in liberal arts, engineering, business, economics, and natural resource sciences, as well as programmes in primary and secondary teaching that are nationally rated in their respective fields. Humanities, social sciences, and STEM-related master's and doctorate degree programmes are available at the university (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). It was renamed to its present form in 1957.

Utah State University has been affiliated with seven Rhodes Scholars, one Nobel Prize winner, one MacArthur Fellows Program inductee, four Harry S. Truman Scholarship holders, and 34 recipients of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, among other notable accomplishments. There are nine colleges at USU, and they provide 159 undergraduate degrees, 83 master's degrees, and 41 doctorate degrees, among other things. The main campus of Utah State University is located in Logan, with regional campuses in Brigham City, Tooele, and the Uintah Basin, as well as 28 additional sites around the state of Utah. In 2010, the College of Eastern Utah, located in Price, Utah, became a member of the Utah State University system, with the name Utah State University College of Eastern Utah (USU Eastern). USU runs more than 20 distant education locations around the state of Utah. Student enrollment at regional campuses, USU Eastern, and distance education centres totals 25% of the total number of students enrolled. The University of Utah boasts 163,000 alumni spread throughout all 50 states and 114 countries.
The Utah State Aggies are the sports teams that represent Utah State University in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. As a member of the Mountain West Conference, they compete against other teams from the region.
