Zurab Ashvil (born 15 June 1971 as Zurab Tsitsuashvili) is an American software developer, technology entrepreneur, and investor. Ashvil is a widely recognized cybernetics subject matter expert (SME) with over 25 years of experience.[1]

Ashvil is the founder of L3COS, the world’s first quantum-safe blockchain-based operating system.[2] His firm specializes in offering legal and financial management systems for countries, corporations, and households. It aims at digitizing the world economy, removing the most expensive aspects of commerce by verifying identities, and automating the use of smart contracts.[3]

Ashvil is a transformational leader and an advocate of cloud-based distribution systems, who, throughout his career, founded several technology firms like Blagodaru Ltd and Proluck Inc. He also worked with industry giants like Microsoft, Dell, and EMC, where he offered his expertise in the design of distributed file systems, along with providing the software design work for Windows 2000, which became the basis of Cloud computing.[4]

Ashvil was elected as a Forbes Council Member in 2020 and has been featured in several media outlets including Forbes, The Times, Greenwich Time, City A.M., Verdict, and others.[5]

Early life and education[edit]

Ashvil was born on 15 June 1971 to Anzor and Zina Tsitsuashvili in Georgia, Tbilisi. Ashvil was inclined towards the technology field from an early age and did several experiments as a child, like combining two separate types of electronics, the radio, and a tape player, into one device

He completed his higher education at the Tbilisi State University and graduated in 1992 with a doctorate in Cybernetics and Applied Mathematics. Soon after that, Ashvil enrolled in the Harvard Business School, where he did an executive course in Computer Systems Technology.

Career[edit]

Ashvil started his career in 1991 when he founded Georgian-Jewish House, the first Non-Profit organization in the Republic of Georgia, and has more than 50,000 members. Georgian-Jewish House works on the improvement of Georgian Jews and is known for organizing cultural exchange programs, fundraisers, and educational programs focusing on the eradication of Soviet oppression on religion. Ashvil worked for two years with this NGO and then left to continue his entrepreneurial journey.

In 1992, Ashvil established the Tbilisi Interbank Currency Exchange (TICEX) in Georgia. The TICEX’s primary goal was organizing trading in foreign currencies. The exchange rates determined on the TICEX has been one of the integral indicators of the success of economic reforms in Georgia. Ashvil worked for three years at TICEX and then joined Softbank Capital, an independent venture capital firm based in New York.[6]

Ashvil joined Softbank Capital in 1995, where he worked for over a decade and honed his skills as a technology entrepreneur. During his tenure at this firm, Ashvil assumed several roles, rising to the position of an executive director. He was responsible for Softbank Capital’s start-up technology investments. Ashvil left the firm in 2006 to pursue an entrepreneurial career in new technologies.[7][8]

In 2006, Ashvil set up Proluck, a management consulting firm, specializing in management consulting, enterprise software architecture and development, technology strategy, project management, infrastructure planning, enterprise content management, cost reductions, and budgeting. Under his leadership, Proluck offered enterprise-level software solutions to several Fortune 500 companies like JPMorgan, ING, Morgan Stanley, and Priceline. Proluck was also involved in preparing the technology assets of Lehman Brothers for sale as part of its liquidation.

After leaving Proluck in 2010, Ashvil founded Blagodaru, a Russian based fitech company which aims to collect and manage automated cash-back incentives for investment into long term financial instruments. Ashvil left the company in 2013 having made seven times on the value of his investment.

Soon after leaving Proluck, Ashvil joined forces with several of his mathematician friends to build L3COS, the first quantum-safe blockchain-based operating system with a government consensus level. L3COS was launched in January 2020 at the World Economic Forum in Davos.[9] L3COS provides users with decentralization, security, transparency, and speed with the added benefit of incorporating the full legal and regulatory structure of each nation’s civic and commercial laws and regulations.[10]

Personal life[edit]

Ashvil was married to Esther Papismedov but divorced in 2012. He married Marina Popova in 2016. Ashvil has four daughters and two sons, named Meghan, Bridget, Aleksandra, Jacqueline Abraham, and Eli. Ashvil is fluent in English, Russian, and Georgian.
