The California NAACP is a branch of the national organization NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). The NAACP has "more than 2,200 affiliates covering all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Japan and Germany," with membership exceeding 500,000 people. The California State NAACP has "72 branches and youth units mobilized across the state" to help accomplish organizational goals.[1]

Mission statement[edit]

"The NAACP’s principal objective is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of minority citizens of the United States and eliminate race prejudice." They accomplish this goal by working to "remove all racial discrimination barriers through democratic processes."[2] The NAACP works on issues such as "school desegregation, fair housing, employment and voter registration, top health and equal economic opportunity," by working with government to help create legislation that helps the impoverished and those who are not well represented in the democratic process.[2]
