Clint Zweifel (b. November 3, 1973) is a former state treasurer of Missouri. Zweifel, a Democrat, was first elected in 2008. He ran for, and won, a second term as treasurer in 2012.[1] He was ineligible to seek re-election in 2016 due to term limits.
Zweifel was born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 3, 1973, and grew up in Florissant. His father worked as a union carpenter while his mother was a hairdresser. He was the first member of his family to attend college.
He lives in Columbia, with his wife, Janice, and their two daughters.[2]
Zweifel was elected as Missouri's 45th state treasurer on November 4, 2008 and sworn into office on January 12, 2009. He won re-election in 2012, but was ineligible to run for re-election in 2016 due to term limits.
Zweifel was first elected to represent District 78 in the Missouri House of Representatives in 2002. He was subsequently re-elected in 2004 and 2006.
Zweifel, who was unable to seek a third term as state treasurer due to term limits, had been mentioned as a possible candidate for governor in 2016. On April 8, 2013, Zweifel's campaign manager Mike Pridemore said that he would not run for governor in order to be able to spend time with his daughters and avoid the possibility of a divisive party primary.[3]
Zweifel announced in June 2011 that he would be seeking re-election as Missouri State Treasurer in 2012.[4] He was unopposed in the August 7 Democratic primary.[5] State Rep. Cole McNary (R) and Sean O'Toole were also unopposed for their respective parties. Zweifel defeated both challengers in the general election on November 6, 2012.[6]
