Dan Schmitt was a 2012 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 5th Congressional District of Illinois. Schmitt ran unopposed in the Republican primary on March 20, 2012, but was defeated in the general election on November 6, 2012.^[1]

Schmitt lost to incumbent Mike Quigley.^[2] Schmitt ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Illinois' 5th District. Schmitt ran on the Republican ticket.^[3] The signature filing deadline was December 27, 2011, and the primary took place on March 20, 2012. Incumbent Mike Quigley sought re-election on the Democratic ticket.

Schmitt ran unopposed in the Republican primary on March 20, 2012. He was defeated by incumbent Mike Quigley in the general election on November 6, 2012.
