David A. Monaco was a judge on the Florida Fifth District Court of Appeal. He took office on January 8, 2003. Monaco served as Chief Judge in July 2009 to June of 2011.[1][2] Monaco resigned from the court on June 30, 2012.[3]
David Monaco graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1965 with a degree in political science. He went on to receive his law degree from the University of Florida College of Law in 1968.[1]
Judge Monaco began his legal career in 1968 as a research assistant for a judge of the 2nd District Court of Appeal. Later that year, he joined the Navy and became a Lieutenant Commander in the Office of the Judge Advocate General. In 1972, he entered private practice and worked as an attorney for various law firms through 1997. On November 12th of that year, he became a circuit court judge of the 7th Judicial Circuit. He held this position until his appointment to the Court of Appeal.[1]
Monaco was retained on November 2, 2010 with 64.09 percent of voters in favor.[2][4]
