Dian Slavens is a former Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing District 21 from 2009 to 2015. Slavens was a 2014 Democratic candidate for District 7 of the Michigan State Senate.[1]
Slavens holds an associate degree in Applied Science and certification as a respiratory therapist from Oakland Community College. Her professional experience includes working as a respiratory therapist.

Elections for the Michigan State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election was held on August 5, 2014, and a general election took place on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was April 22, 2014. Dian Slavens was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Incumbent Patrick Colbeck defeated Matthew Edwards in the Republican primary. Colbeck defeated Slavens in the general election.[2][3][4][5]

Slavens won re-election in the 2012 election for Michigan House of Representatives District 21. She defeated Kiz Ahamiojie in the August 7 Democratic primary and defeated Joe Barnabei (R) in the general election which took place on November 6.[6][7]

Slavens won re-election to the District 21 seat in 2010. She had no primary opposition. She defeated Lori Levi in the general election on November 2, 2010.[8][9]

Slavens and her husband, Mark, have three children and one grandson.
A Republican group started a recall campaign against Slavens and fellow Democratic state Reps. Phil Cavanagh and Tim Bledsoe in the fall of 2011. Early in January 2012, attorney and GOP strategist Stu Sandler said they would be suspending all three recalls.[14]
