A government official or functionary is an official who is involved in public administration or government, through either election, appointment, or employment.
Disclosing elected officials on government websites[edit]
Websites sponsored by the government should include information about who serves on the governing board. The governing board could be a school board, a city council, a county commission, or other board that has the power and authority to set policy and taxes for a particular political jurisdiction.
The website should include:

- The names of all elected officials who serve on the governing board.
- Contact information for all elected officials. Contact information should include a physical address, a telephone number and an e-mail address.
- The website should include information about terms of office and date of next election.
- If the elected official was elected in a partisan election, the website should indicate the party affiliation of each elected politician on its governing board.
Recommended:
- Any financial disclosures and conflict-of-interest statements (if required by the government entity) should be posted online.
