Mississippi: On Sunday, March 6, 2011 former chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit Charles Clark died at the age of 85.[1] The Fifth Circuit is a federal court with appellate jurisdiction over all of Texas and parts of Louisiana and Mississippi.

Clark was commissioned on October 17, 1969 and served 23 years before retiring January 15, 1992. He was chief judge from 1981 to 1992. Clark was a graduate of University of Mississippi School of Law, class of 1948. Prior to becoming a federal judge he was in private practice and spent two years in the U.S. Naval Reserve during the Korean War. Clark had received an honorary Doctorate of Laws from Mississippi College and was inducted into the Hall of Fame at University of Mississippi’s School of Law.[1]

Charles Edward Clark is survived by "his wife, Emily; four sons and two daughters; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren."[1]
