Georgia House of Representatives
Elections for the office of Georgia State House were held in Georgia on November 2, 2010 in all 180 state house districts.

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in these elections was June 21, 2010, and the primary Election Day was July 20, 2010.

As with the senate, Republicans made minor gains in the election giving them a larger majority.

  • 44 GOP incumbents faced no November challenger.

Primary challenges[edit]

Only 30 incumbents faced competition in the July 20 primary. One incumbent - Democrat Don Wix - lost in the July 20 primary, while three incumbents - Republicans Daniel Stout and Cecily Hill and Democrat Toney Collins - came in first in the July 20 primary, but lost in the August 10 runoff. The following 26 incumbents (13 Democrats, 13 Republicans) won their primaries:

Retiring incumbents[edit]

26 incumbent representatives did not run for re-election, while 153 incumbents (85%) ran for re-election. Of the 26 incumbents who did not seek re-election, 6 were Democrats and 20 were Republican.

Qualifications[edit]

Paragraph 3 of Section 2 of Article 3 of the Georgia Constitution states, "At the time of their election, the members of the House of Representatives shall be citizens of the United States, shall be at least 21 years of age, shall have been citizens of this state for at least two years, and shall have been legal residents of the territory embraced within the district from which elected for at least one year."
