The Treasurer of the State of Indiana is an elected state executive position in the Indiana state government and one of five constitutional offices. The treasurer is the chief investment officer and banker of the state and serves on numerous state boards, commissions and authorities The treasurer is elected in a statewide election every four years.[1]
The current treasurer is Kelly Mitchell.[2][3] Mitchell, a Republican, was first elected on November 4, 2014, and took office on November 18, relieving interim treasurer Daniel Huge.[4]
Article 6, Section 1 of the Indiana Constitution addresses the office of state treasurer:[5]
There shall be elected, by the voters of the state, a Secretary, an Auditor and a Treasurer of State, who shall, severally, hold their offices for four years. They shall perform such duties as may be enjoined by law; and no person shall be eligible to either of said offices, more than eight years in any period of twelve years. |
