One seat on the Jackson County School Board was up for general election on November 3, 2015. The seat of District 5 incumbent Troy Frisbie was up for election.[1][2] Frisbie won re-election without opposition.[3]

Jackson County School District is located in southeast Mississippi in Jackson County. The county seat is Pascagoula. This county was home to 141,137 residents in 2014, according to an estimate by the United States Census Bureau.[4] In the 2011-2012 school year, Jackson County School District was the sixth-largest school district in Mississippi and served 9,357 students.[5]

Jackson County underperformed the rest of Mississippi in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 19.6 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 20.1 percent for Mississippi as a whole. The median household income in Jackson County was $48,943, compared to $39,031 for the state of Mississippi. The poverty rate was 15.9 percent, compared to 22.7 percent for the entire state.[4]
