John David McAfee was a cybersecurity entrepreneur and Libertarian Party candidate for president of the United States in 2016 and 2020.[1][2][3]
McAfee died on June 23, 2021.[4]
Biography[edit]
McAfee was born in the United Kingdom and raised in Roanoke, Virginia. His early career experience included working for Missouri Pacific Railroad and NASA’s Institute for Space Studies. In the early 1980s, he worked for Lockheed. When the first computer virus struck in 1986, McAfee founded his own anti-virus technology company, McAfee Associates. He resigned from his software company in 1994 to advise start-ups, lecture, and pursue other projects.
McAfee fled the country in 2019 after claiming that he "hadn't filed taxes in 8 years." He was captured later that year by the Dominican Republic before being released. On October 3. 2020, McAfee was arrested by Spanish authorities by the United States behest. He was indicted by the United States federal court system in March 2021 on several charges. Spain granted the United States' extradition on June 22, 2021. Spanish authorities reported finding McAfee dead in his prison cell later that day.[4][5]
