The Minnesota Early Childhood Education Amendment did not appear on the November 2012 ballot in Minnesota as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. The proposed amendment would have required the state to provide education for children through the age of five.[1]

Text of measure[edit]

The question would have been presented to voters as follows:[2]

"Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to require the state to provide for early childhood education?"

  • NO

Constitutional Changes[edit]

The proposed amendment would amend Section 1 to Article XII to the Minnesota Constitution.[2]

In order to refer proposed amendments to the ballot they must be agreed on by a majority of the members of each chamber of the Minnesota State Legislature. The 2012 legislative session ended before the measure was passed on to the ballot.
