Representative Curry Todd charged with DUI

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee: Representative Curry Todd was arrested Tuesday on DUI and handgun possession charges. In a statement he has said that he is "deeply sorry for the events of last evening. On the advice of legal counsel, I have decided not to make any public comments about the situation at this time."[1]
Democratic Party Chairman Chip Forrester has stated that Todd's actions are "embarrassing to himself and the state of Tennessee. House Speaker Beth Harwell would do the entire a state a great service by asking Todd to resign or explain why she condones this unacceptable behavior from Republican leadership."[1]
Majority Leader Gerald McCormick has retorted by saying "maybe the Democratic Party chairman ought to read the U.S. Constitution before he executes someone for something they haven't been convicted of yet. That would be my suggestion."[1]
A police report states that Todd failed a sobriety test and refused a breathalyzer. A loaded handgun was also found holstered in his vehicle between the driver seat and the center console. Police have stated that Todd was "obviously very impaired and not in any condition to be carrying a loaded handgun."[1]
Todd was the lead sponsor of a bill which would let people carry loaded weapons into bars which serve alcohol if they were not drinking.
