Salvatore R. Martoche was a judge on the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Fourth Department. Governor Pataki designated him to this position on May 3, 2004.^[1] His term on the Supreme Court ended on December 31, 2013.^[2]

Education[edit]

Judge Martoche was born on October 12, 1940 in Buffalo, NY. He received his bachelor's degree from Canisius College in 1962 and his J.D. degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1967. He is now married and has three grown children.^[3][4]

Career[edit]

After law school, Judge Martoche worked as a public defender in the Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo.^[5] In 1969, he became a private practice lawyer. He worked in this capacity until 1982, when he became a U.S. Attorney for Western New York. In 1986, he became the assistant secretary of the U.S. Labor Department. Two years later, he was nominated Assistant Secretary for Enforcement in the U.S. Treasury Department. He worked in this position until 1990.^[4] He then joined the law firm Hiscock & Barclay. He also served as a commissioner on the state Commission of Investigation until 1999, when he was elected a Justice of the New York Supreme Court 8th Judicial District for Erie County.^[5] He took office on January of 2000.^[1]
