    An effort to recall Jason M-B Wells, Jose Barajas and Jean Romero from their respective positions as board president and board members of San Ysidro School District Board, California was launched in April 2013. Supporters of the recall circulated petitions in order to qualify the recall question for the ballot. The recall effort did not go to a vote.

    Background[edit]

    In April 2013 recall supporters, led by former board candidate Ray Moreno, served notices of intention to circulate recall petitions to Wells, Barajas and Romero. Recall supporters were upset with the board's decision to accept the resignation of Superintendent Manuel Paul effective June 30, 2013, along with a severance package of more than $230,000. Paul had plead not guilty to charges of corruption in court in April. Wells wrote to reporters of the board's decision, "[Recall supporters] feel we somehow [have] given into [Paul] when the reality is we parted ways with him in the most fiscal and operationally efficient way possible."[1][2]

    Recall supporters had until October 22, 2013 to collect 2,515 signatures (20 percent of the district's registered voters). Their petition was approved by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters on June 24, 2013.[2]
