The South Dakota Secretary of Labor is an appointed position in the South Dakota state government. The secretary leads the state Department of Labor and Regulation, whose mission is "to promote economic opportunity and financial security for individuals and businesses through quality, responsive and expert services; fair and equitable employment solutions; and safe and sound business practices."[1]

The current officeholder is Marcia Hultman. She was appointed as interim director on October 10, 2013.[2] Hultman was named the permanent director on December 6, 2013.[1]

Department of Labor and Regulation created -- Secretary as head. There is hereby created a Department of Labor and Regulation. The head of the Department of Labor and Regulation is the secretary of labor and regulation who shall be appointed and serve pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution of the State of South Dakota, Article IV, § 9[3]
