South Dakotans will see a thinner ballot for 2010

PIERRE, South Dakota: 2010 marks a relatively light year for ballot measures in South Dakota. In the past decade South Dakotans have seen an average of six measures on the statewide ballot, most of which were legislatively referred. In 2006 voters saw as many as 11 measures, more than half of which were citizen initiated. This year, voters will see two legislatively referred constitutional amendment, one veto referendum and one initiated state statute. The last time voters saw a veto referendum on the ballot was in 2006 - Abortion Ban Referendum. The referendum was defeated 56% to 44%.
