Steamboat Springs Home Rule Charter Amendment (2009)

The Steamboat Springs Home Rule Charter Amendment was a ballot measure that was on the November 3, 2009 ballot in Routt County for voters in the city of Steamboat Springs. The ordinance that placed the measure on the ballot was read on July 21, 2009.^[1]

The City Council supported the measure that would eliminate "discrepancy" between the city charter and the state statute concerning the required number of signatures for a referendum on a ballot. If voters approved of the measure, the ordinance would reduce the threshold of required signatures from 20 percent of area registered voters to 10 percent, which coincides with the state constitution.

During the July 22 meeting, members voted to pass the ordinance placing the question on the November ballot.^[2]^[3]
