Tara Hollis was a Democratic candidate for Governor of Louisiana in the 2011 election.[1] She lost to incumbent Republican Bobby Jindal in the October 22, 2011 primary election.
Biography[edit]
Hollis and her husband, Glenn, own a 31-acre farm in Haynesville, where they cut hay and raise horses and chickens. She is a school teacher and active in local education outside the classroom, volunteering with the 4H club, a national spelling bee team, and a junior high cheerleading squad.
Hollis earned an M.Ed from Louisiana Tech.[2]

The Louisiana Gubernatorial election of 2011 was decided on October 22, 2011 in the primary election. Incumbent Republican Bobby Jindal captured more than 50 percent of the vote in the blanket primary, winning re-election outright. The Louisiana general election was held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 and the office of governor did not appear on the ballot.[3]

According to her website, Hollis is a pro-life, pro-family, and pro-Louisiana business candidate "committed to doing what's right for Louisiana." Her campaign centered on her 12 "core pledges to the people of Louisiana:
- Full transparency for the governor's office
- Ban on one-time money for recurring expenses
- Pledge to complete full term in office
- Reverse the sale of the office of group benefits
- Reimburse state for costs of political travel
- Review cuts to K-12 education
- Increase cigarette tax to offset the health costs of smoking
- Re-bid the tarnished $340 DHH Medicaid contract
- Reduce state workforce 15% by attrition
- Reduce state contracts by 10%
- Comprehensive review of all contracts awarded by the administration
- Make the governor's schedule public"[4]
