Two down ballot state executive positions were up for election in the state of Utah in 2012.

Candidates are nominated at the state party conventions. If no candidate receives 60 percent of delegate support they face off in a regular primary election.

The general election took place on November 6, 2012, following a primary on June 26, 2012.

Treasurer[edit]

The Utah Treasurer election was held on November 6, 2012. Incumbent Richard Ellis (R) defeated Christopher Stout and Vincent Marcus to win re-election. Ellis was first elected in 2008.[1]

Primary[edit]

The primary election for Utah Treasurer was held on June 26, 2012. Since all candidates won their respective party caucus, a primary was not necessary.

Auditor[edit]

The Utah State Auditor election was held on November 6, 2012. John Dougall defeated Mark Sage (D) and Richard Proctor (Constitution) with over 65% of the vote.[2]

Incumbent auditor Auston Johnson (R) ran for re-election but lost to Dougall in the primary. Johnson had served in the position since July 1995.

Primary[edit]

The primary election for Utah State Auditor were held on June 26, 2012. Only a Republican primary was necessary.

Note: At the State Republican Party convention Dougall received 45 percent of delegate support to Johnson's 55 percent. Since neither candidate received the necessary 60 percent, they proceeded to a primary.[3]
