The Republican Governors Association advertisement supporting Brian Dubie

MONTPELIER, Vermont: A television advertisement launched by the Republican Governors Association in support of Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Dubie has drawn the ire of Vermont Democrats who argue that it is a violation of campaign finance laws.[1] A two-page complaint has been filed with State Attorney General Bill Sorrell contending that the commercial represents a clear violation of state campaign finances rules that "prohibit candidates from “facilitating, soliciting or approving” expenditures from political-action committees or other independent groups."[1] Sorrell's office has immediately launched an investigation into the matter to determine whether the complaint has merit. Should Dubie be found guilty of violating state campaign measures, fines of up to $10,000 per violation could be filed against him.
