Campaign themes[edit]

2016[edit]

Haynie's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Economy

  • Excerpt: "While established areas like Lehi are continuing to see the technology and retail renovation, other areas of the state are seeing slower growth. I am committed to repealing job-killing legislation and regulations and fostering a strong pro-business, pro-job creation business environment."

Infrastructure

  • Excerpt: "I believe in prioritizing and allocating transportation dollars to projects we actually need and use. Public transit has its place, but bloated government agencies are not the best stewards of our resources. Our dollars need to be spent locally to meet our transportation needs in practical projects."

Public lands

  • Excerpt: "We face issues with access to our public lands. I share the view of many others that the Federal control of Utah lands is undue and heavy handed. At the same time, the importance of our wild lands and remote areas and want to respect and preserve our most sensitive areas. Our states’ rights and lands should be preserved. I believe we can develop our resources and still be good stewards of the land."

Gun rights

  • Excerpt: "Growing up in Utah I was raised around guns and I can remember spending several Saturdays out target shooting., I own guns and know how to handle and shoot them. I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, which I believe is in the Bill of Rights for good reason. I support the right to bear arms, and I will always vote to protect our second Amendment."
