The American Foreign Policy Council was founded in 1982,as a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing information to those who make or influence the foreign policy of the United States and to assisting world leaders, particularly in the former Soviet Union]], with building democracies and market economies. [1] From the original Soviet focus, it now has six major areas of interest:

  • Central Asia]]n Counterterrorism]]
  • China
  • Eurasia]] program: regional security in the greater Middle East, Russian regional policy, energy and security in Central Asia, and transnational threats
  • Ballistic missile defense]] and weapons of mass destruction]]
  • Iran: aims at democracy promotion and threat reduction
  • Russia]]: assumes a policy of engagement
