American University, in Washington, D.C., is a private undergraduate and graduate university. It is particularly noted for its faculty and student involvement in the political process, often "from the inside". Princeton Review, since 2006, has twice designated it as the most politically active in the United States. It has a considerable part-time enrollment, and law students, for example, are no longer surprised to find a senator at the next desk. While it is officially "liberal arts", its six colleges also cover law, communications, business, international service, and public affairs. It is affiliated with the Methodist Church, although the campus is extremely open to all religions. The university is in a formal Consortium with many of the institutions of higher education in the region, so students can easily take specialized courses not offered at their home campus. |
