The Arizona Diamondbacks are a Major League Baseball team based in Phoenix, Arizona. The team was founded in 1998 as an expansion team in the National League. [1] [2] [3]

Championships[edit]

The team has had one championship-winning season in the modern era (1901 and later) of major-league baseball, winning the World Series in 2001. They were also National League champions, but lost in the World Series, in 2023. [4]

Locations and Nicknames[edit]

Since its inception in 1998, the team has been known as the Arizona Diamondbacks and has played its home games at Chase Field in Phoenix. The stadium was originally named Bank One Ballpark but was renamed Chase Field following the 2005 season. [5] [6]

Retired Numbers[edit]

The following uniform numbers are retired in that players, managers, and coaches of the team will no longer use them. [7] [8]

  • 20 Luis Gonzalez
  • 42 Jackie Robinson (retired across major league baseball)
  • 51 Randy Johnson
