Arthurian legend [r]: Traditional and literary stories about Arthur, said to have been a king in Britain some time before the 10th century, who may or may not have been a historical figure. [e]
Also known as the "Matter of Britain", Arthurian legend is the collection of tales centred on the legendary King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table. The work of Thomas Malory brought together much of this, and was the basis of the work of Tennyson and subsequent writers, including T H White.
