Constitution Project

From Citizendium - Reading time: 1 min

A bipartisan group that focuses on solving difficult U.S. public policy issues, through dialogue across ideological and partisan lines, but using the U.S. Constitution as a reference. As a think tank, it produces research reports and testimony. The group also files amicus curiae briefs.

It produced the "Beyond Guantanamo" petition, signatories to which crossed a wide range of perceived boundaries, and generally focuses on using the courts rather than unilateral executive authority. In March 2010, it urged the Obama Administration to keep the U.S. v. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, et al. trial in Federal court.

Areas of work[edit]

The group's work is organized around seven bipartisan committees.

  • Constitutional Amendments
  • Courts
  • Death Penalty
  • Liberty and Security
  • Right to Counsel
  • Sentencing
  • War Powers
