Fraser River Basin Map.jpg

The Fraser River is an important river in British Columbia. Its headwaters are in the Rocky Mountains, near the border with Alberta. The river first flows north, before turning south, to its mouth not far from Vancouver.

The river has some narrow gorges and dangerous rapids, and many railway workers died while constructing the Canadian Pacific Railroad, Canada's first cross-country railroad, which paralleled the river.
