An Indonesian High Value Detainee held in Guantanamo Bay detention camp, Hambali is an ethnic Sudanese, whose true name is Riduan bin Isomuddin. He is considered the operations chief for Jemaah Islamiya (JI) and was their principal link to al-Qaeda.[1] Hambali was captured in Ayutthaya, Thailand on 11 August 2003. [2] He is also known as Hambali Nurjaman, Encep Nurjaman and Riduan Isomuddin. Zubair and Lillie reported to him. Operations[edit]In 1999, he established a JI group in Karachi, called al-Ghuraba, which trained members and worked with al-Qaeda. Hambali was associated with the attempted assassination of the Philippines ambassador to Indonesia, and the Christmas Eve bombing of 30 churches in 2000. He planned the 2002 Bali bombings and obtained al-Qaeda financing for the bombing of the Jakarta Marriott in 2003.
