Intel is a Fortune 500[1] manufacturer of integrated circuitry. The company is best known for its popular x86 line of computer processors (also known as a CPU or Central Processing Unit), which are used on the majority of general purpose computers today.
A lineal ancestor of the x86 line of processors, the Intel 8008, was used in the Altair 8800 microcomputer. The Intel 8080 was used in several of the first home computers, like the Imsai 8080.
