The Los Angeles Angels are a Major League Baseball team based in Anaheim, California (U.S. state), which is southeast of Los Angeles. The team was founded in 1961 as an expansion team in the American League. [1] [2]
The team has had one championship-winning season in the modern era (1901 and later) of major-league baseball, winning the World Series in 2002. This was also the only season that they were American League champions. [3]
The team has been based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area since its inception in 1961. They have played their home games at the following stadiums. [4]
Though they have always been known by the nickname "Angels" and played in the greater Los Angeles area, their named home location has changed over the years: [5]
The following uniform numbers are retired in that players, managers, and coaches of the team will no longer use them.[6]
