The Los Angeles Dodgers are a Major League Baseball team based in Los Angeles, California (U.S. state). The team was founded in 1884 as the Brooklyn Atlantics of the American Association, a baseball league active during the period 1882-1891. Their first year as a National League team was in 1890 as the Brooklyn Bridegrooms. ^{[1] [2] [3]}

Championships[edit]

The team has had a total of 8 championship-winning seasons in the modern era (1901 and later) of major-league baseball, winning the World Series in 2024, 2020, 1988, 1981, 1965, 1963, 1959, and 1955. They were also National League champions, but lost in the World Series, 12 times, in 2018, 2017, 1978, 1977, 1974, 1966, 1956, 1953, 1952, 1949, 1947, and 1941. ^[4]

Prior to the start of the modern World Series in 1903, the team won 1 American Association title, in 1889, and 3 National League titles, in 1890, 1899, and 1900. They appeared in a 19th-century version of the World Series twice, in 1889 (as AA champion) and in 1890 (as NL champion), where the champions from the American Association and National League played each other. They lost the series in 1889 and tied in 1890. There was no World Series played in their other league-championship years of the 19th century.
