A player of a game is a participant of the game being played. The number of players in a game can vary from a single player to a large number of players (as in an online game).

Number of players[edit]

The number of players in a game is dictates by the rules of the game. There can be, in some instances, only one player. Card games such as solitare, as well as many video games, arcade games, and casino games, involve only one player. Many board games are made for two players. There are many video games, as well as card games and board games that are played online. In these instances, there can be thousands of players or more. One such game that has been very prevalent in promoting online games with large numbers of players playing simultaneously is the Massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft.
