The Slovenian (or Slovene) language is an Indo-European language that belongs to the family of South Slavic languages. It is spoken by about two million speakers, mainly in Slovenia but also in some regions of Italy, Austria and Hungary with Slovenian minorities. It of one of the official languages of the European Union.

Slovenian is one of the few languages which preserves the dual grammatical number.

The word 'Slovenian' is derived from the same root as 'Slavic'.
