The Continental was a hit song written by Con Conrad and lyricist Herb Magidson. It was featured in the "Fred and Ginger" motion picture vehicle The Gay Divorcee, in which it was sung by Ginger Rogers. It has since become a society band staple and has had many covers.

in 1934 The Continental won the first Academy Award given for Best Song.

The Continental is a favourite for ballroom dancing, where it is played as either a brisk foxtrot or a quickstep.
