The University of Alaska Fairbanks is a publicly-supported land-grant research university with its main campus located in Fairbanks, Alaska, founded in 1922 as the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines. It is the flagship institution of the University of Alaska System, and also operates a number of satellite campuses in rural locations throughout the northern and western part of the state. Fall 2006 enrollment at the Fairbanks campus was 5,427; for the university as a whole, 9,681.[1]
