Wikia is a website intended to help people create wikis devoted to their particular interests, where they can meet others that share that interest.^[1] It also is described as a network of collaboratively published entertainment, gaming, and lifestyle content.^[2] Wikia was founded by Jimmy Wales and Angela Beesley in 2004, and is funded in part by advertising. A problem has been to keep people interested after the initial burst of excitement when their wiki is first created. Only 1% to 2% of these new wikis hang on after the initial rush.^[3]

Its CEO is Craig Palmer, formerly President and CEO of Gracenote.^[2]

Some users of Wikia have had disagreements with management, and an organization to help wikis migrate to other wiki farms has formed.^[4]
