Definition[edit]

In its most common usage, a zoo is a place where animals are kept for the amusement of human visitors. Another usage of the word 'zoo' is to refer to a situation or a place that is cluttered or consists of a disparate grouping of separate elements.

Famous zoos[edit]

Zoos are located in towns and cities around the world.

Some have become particularly well known and often attract many tourists interested in visiting the zoo as part of visiting that particular city.

For example ZSL London Zoo is a popular tourist destination for visitors to London.[1]

In Australia, Taronga Zoo in Sydney[2] is a popular traditional visitor attraction, however in September 2007 it was reported that the Australia Zoo founded by the late Australian adventurer Steve Irwin had become that country's most popular single visitor attraction.[3]
